Foreign partnerships boosts Basetec’s business expertise

Jeffrey L. Bleich and Charles Figallo

Adelaide-based composite pipe manufacturer, Basetec Services,
has become an important supplier to Australia’s growing oil and
gas industry.

In 2014/15, Basetec has forged 3 new partnerships with Abu Dhabi, Egypt and Nigeria. These agreements created a joint venture company, based in Adelaide, to respond to a global demand for high pressure, anti-corrosive, composite pipes.

Basetec’s NovaFast Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) pipes are designed and engineered in Adelaide and sold to major projects in Australia and around the world. Managing Director Charles Figallo said the joint venture would increase Basetec’s Adelaide workforce from 35 to 100, and boost other local firms which supply parts and provide technical support.

“These are highly skilled jobs in a growing sector,” Mr Figallo said. “Winning our first contract with Santos took a lot of work as the prequalification process is quite rigorous. Now that we have proven our capabilities, we are receiving lots of enquiries about our products and services.” Other than Santos, Basetec‘s clients include Origin Energy, Woodside Petroleum and BP.

Mr Figallo said Basetec viewed the South Australian unconventional gas sector as a growing market with boundless opportunities. “Our experience means we are well-positioned to supply this expanding sector here in South Australia,” Mr Figallo said. ICN in South Australia has had a long association with Basetec, helping it connect with resource companies.

This ensures that jobs and revenue stay in South Australia – an essential way to maximise the benefits of mining activity for all South Australians.

“Had it not been for our relationship with ICN, we wouldn’t have won many of the lucrative contracts we’ve been successful in bidding for – including the Santos one,” Mr Figallo said.

“ICN plays an important role in helping companies like mine forge relationships with major corporations. They open doors you may not have thought existed.”
