Local suppliers tap into major road project
Queensland companies have secured more than $157m worth of business as part of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing (TSRC).
Project Owner, Nexus Delivery is committed to sourcing local subcontractors, suppliers, goods and services, and has used ICN Gateway as part of its procurement process.
‘This is the largest Australian Government funding commitment to a single road project in Queensland’s history’, ICN consultant Abhiney Arora said.
‘It will ensure freight efficiencies and improve driver safety and community convenience by removing heavy vehicles from Toowoomba’s central business district’.
‘By using ICN Gateway, local suppliers were able to lodge expressions of interest on a range of work packages, and Nexus was made aware of the industry capability of the region.’
The project began in 2016 and is expected to take three years to complete.
At completion it will include:
  • Four lanes from Warrego Highway East Interchange to Warrego Highway West.
  • Grade separated interchanges at Warrego Highway West, Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Road and Gore Highway.
  • Grade separated connection to Mort Street.
  • An approximately 30-metre deep cutting at the top of the Toowoomba Range as an alternative to the tunnel solution as detailed in the reference design to allow all heavy vehicles, including dangerous goods and over-dimensional vehicles to use the TSRC.
  • 800m long viaduct built over the existing Queensland Rail line.
  • Continuity of the New England Highway through a new bridge over the cutting.
‘The TSRC will continue to deliver significant economic benefits for the region and will support local employment and the local supply chain across the life of the project’, Abhiney said.
Some of the (approximately) 50 Queensland businesses to have been awarded contracts are:
  • Pitt & Sherry & HDR Pty Ltd: Design Works for Temporary Long Term Construction Traffic Guidance Scheme.
  • Enwise Electrical Pty Ltd:  Supply and Maintain Ice Machines.
  • Ecosure Pty Ltd: Fauna Spotter and Catcher services.
  • SIMTARS: Provision of Air Quality Monitoring Services contract.
  • ARG Trees: Clear and Grub contract for East, Central and West sections of the project.
  • Roadnet Pty Ltd: Road Safety Audits.
  • Time Lapse Pty Ltd: Photography Services.
  • Dream N Clean: Site Cleaning.
  • Challenger Knight Services: Site Security (Roaming).
  • The go2 People & Telum Civil: Supply of Labour Hire.
  • JJ Richards & Sons Pty Ltd:  Waste Management (waste bins/skips) contract.
  • Major Training Group & Downs Group Training: Training and Development Services.
Dan Ford, of the go2 People said the company had submitted an expression of interest for the labour hire supply package on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing project with Nexus Delivery, and had been shortlisted and then awarded a contract.
‘We have worked closely with the ICN team this year to best position our company and to maximise our profile on ICN Gateway. Their understanding and insight into what the client typically is looking for, and the assistance they were able to provide our company has been invaluable.’
