Epworth's positive impact on local community
With a renewed focus, a common overarching goal amongst individuals and businesses, and a real understanding of collaboration, Geelong has demonstrated what it is made of and what its future could behold.
The new construction of Epworth Geelong is a shining example. From the onset, this project has been conscious of the string of economic blows to Geelong in recent years. Dedicated to making a difference, Epworth Geelong included as one of their primary goals, a promise to have a positive impact on the Geelong community, with a focus on corporate social responsibility.
On Epworth's part there was no 'corporate talk' - they have simply followed through. Engaging with the Industry Capability Network (ICN) and Brookfield Multiplex to ensure they engaged local Geelong suppliers wherever possible, the partnership has resulted in 250 newly created local jobs, including the opportunity for 15 passionate young people to commence and continue electrical apprenticeships through Geelong business, Gforce Employment Solutions.
ICN Barwon Regional Manager Peter McCracken said collaborating with Gforce to stimulate additional apprentices was a natural synergy - ICN targeting jobs growth and Gforce targeting apprenticeship growth - it made perfect sense.
Gforce CEO Rob Birch said working with Brookfield Multiplex, ICN and its online project portal ICN Gateway allowed us enhanced and up-to-date information, which provided Gforce with intel to get these apprenticeship opportunities going.
"When you get to speak to these young apprentices, you realise how passionate they are; how they're just looking for the opportunity to get on a worksite and practice what they love," said Rob.
"It's up to us - Geelong businesses and Geelong leaders - to do our best to ensure the opportunities are there wherever possible."
