ICN's Meet the Buyer brings together local steel supplier and national developer to Dandenong
ICN is committed to continuously offering new business sources for local SMEs on projects in Victoria, and the $62M Dandenong Municipal Project is no exception.

In October, 2012 ICN Victoria hosted a “Meet the Buyer” networking event with the aim of briefing local companies on the contract opportunities that were available for the impressive new civic building in Central Dandenong. The five storey, 5-star GreenStar rated building is part of the Revitalising Central Dandenong initiative and will include a new regional library, customer services facility, Council chambers and community meeting rooms, Council offices and an open air civic plaza and events space.

The networking event was attended by around 50 companies including Wisteria Steel Constructions, a forward thinking steel fabrication company located in Carrum Downs. It was at this event that Eiji Fujihara, Managing Director of Wisteria Steel was introduced to Matt Shinkfield, Project Manager of WATPAC Construction - the contractors for this project. Having worked in the construction industry for the past 25 years, and with Wisteria Steel boasting an impressive portfolio spanning over eight years, Mr Fujihara, immediately identified that they would be able to fulfil the steel requirements needed for this project.

With the assistance of ICN’s Regional Manager, Peter Moore, it wasn’t long before Wisteria Steel was successful in tendering for and winning the steel fabrication package to supply and install approximately 200 tonnes of steel including façade steel, roof and plant steel, pods and projections – worth $1.2M to the company.

Elated to have secured the contract, Eiji Fujihara, Managing Director of Wistera Steel said; “I have been aware of ICN’s existence for a few years now; however, I never thought we could be one of the beneficiaries of such a huge networking organisation. It was a surprisingly smooth transition from the initial Meet the Buyer meeting where we were given an opportunity to speak with the WATPAC team to tender for the Dandenong Project. Peter Moore from ICN particularly encouraged us at the beginning of the process and assisted us in getting over the line. If you are willing and capable then ICN can open the door of opportunity".

Wisteria Steel is committed to servicing, and supporting local projects in the South East Melbourne region and have previously contributed their services on the hospital and aged care facility at The Mornington Centre, Air Services Australia’s TAS building at Melbourne Airport, and the Victorian Police Helicopter Hanger in Essendon Fields. The contract for the Dandenong Municipal Project represents full time employment for five employees for at least eight months.
