Wodonga firm taps into major projects with ICN support
Regional Victorian firm, specialising in structural steel fabricator, has secured a $5.5 million dollar deal with the West Gate Bridge Strengthening Project in Victoria.
The company Kiewa Valley Engineering, was grateful for the leverage offered by the Industry Capability Network’s resources in assisting with this success.
For this high profile project, KVE who is based in Wodonga manufactured 1060 Monorail beams along with a series of tailored public safety barriers. In securing this work, KVE created an extra shift, employing six additional staff. The West Gate Bridge Strengthening Project was part of the Monash-CityLink-West Gate Upgrade which is part of the $10.5 billion infrastructure investment program under the Victorian Government’s Meeting Our Transport Challenges plan. KVE worked closely with the project team to enhance the solution and was able to deliver the whole project on-time and within budget.
As an independent, government-funded organisation ICN supports local industry by matching businesses and their capabilities to markets and specific opportunities. ICN aims to encourage local sourcing, support import replacement and assist Australian companies access export opportunities. According to the company’s Managing Director, Andrew Robin, ICN’s assistance was pivotal to his company winning this work: “ICN opened doors for us and introduced our company to the right people to ensure we were given the opportunity to tender for this work.” Mr Robin said. “The West Gate Bridge Strengthening is a massive project with a rigorous tendering process and the ICN’s assistance was invaluable.”
Kiewa Valley Engineering was founded in 1977 in Dederang, Victoria in response to local demand for steel fabrication in the construction and agricultural industries. Andrew Robin, who commenced his apprenticeship that year, took over the business in 1988 and relocated the business into Wodonga in 1996. Over the past 34 years in the steel fabrication industry KVE's continual drive to achieve the highest possible industry standards and manufacturing excellence, have seen it grow to become a nationally recognised steel fabricator.
