The Defence Sector
The Defence sector has been identified as one of the growth sectors in the Northern Territory’s Economic Development Framework that has the potential to expand and diversify the Territory economy.

$20 billion in Defence infrastructure investment is planned for the Northern Territory over the next 20 years under the Major Capital Facilities Program. Further, Defence will spend approximately:

  • $8 billion in the next 10 years and $12 billion in the following 10 years;
  • Approximately $2 billion of the investment in the Northern Territory will be shared by Australia and the United States as part of the joint Australia-US Force Posture Initiative.

In Central Australia, it is crucial to increase the size of the local economy by encouraging more local content into Defence related projects and build on local capabilities which are a requirement to work on federal government projects. Hear from:

Kerryn Smith, CEO - AIDN-NT.
Kerryn has continued to play a leading role in ensuring that the Defence industry has a capable and high skilled, high tech Defence and related industry in Australia. To do so she works in close collaboration with industry, state and commonwealth stakeholders, and providing guidance and support at national level.

Michael Prentice, Operations Manager - Industry Capability Network (Northern Territory).
Michael is currently the Operations Manager of the Industry Capability Network (NT), leading the operational side of the organisation by ensuring the ICN team showcase the strength, experience and ability of local businesses to projects whilst at the same time matching them to relevant project opportunities both locally and interstate.

Stephen Goodall, Defence Industry Engagement Officer, Industry Skills Advisory Council NT.
Stephen Goodall has an extensive background in Defence and major projects delivery encompassing work throughout the Asia Pacific region covering the past 40 years.

As a former serving officer in the Australian Regular Army and more recently as Northern Territory Regional Manager in the Oil and Gas sector, Stephen has developed substantial cross sector projects expertise which supports his current role as Industry Engagement Officer at the Industry Skills Advisory Council (ISACNT).

Greg Jenkins, AECOM Government Services Australia Pty Ltd.
An experienced senior manager who has led organisational reform, infrastructure development projects and business transformation at Defence and Intelligence sites. He is currently tasked to deliver management services and infrastructure projects at the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap.

Shafick Elsayed, Supply Chain Lead - BAE Systems Australia.
Shafick has held various roles in Commercial, Supply Chain and Project Management at BAE Systems Australia Limited, Australia’s largest defence company.

Shafick’s current role focuses on delivering an effective supply chain solution to the Wide Area Surveillance line of business. Primarily his focus is on supporting the successful delivery of contracted programs such as JORN Phase 6 and creating relationships and strategies with industry to increase the probability of securing targeted adjacent market opportunities

Allan Schmidt, Defence Lead – Tiwi Partners.
Allan is an engineer, project and facility manager with experience in Commonwealth Government, Defence, tertiary health care facilities, local government and commercial sectors. Hear about how Tiwi Partners built a relationship with Defence and enjoy a strong and beneficial ongoing partnership.
