ICN Victoria is proud to be a founding member of the newly launched Australian MedTech Manufacturing Alliance (AMMA), which aims to grow opportunities for medtech manufacturers to sell local content to domestic health services. The Alliance was announced in October 2024 by Hon Natalie Hutchins, Minister for Jobs and Industry.

Other founding members of the alliance are BioMelbourne Network, AusBiotech, MTPConnect, and Australian Manufacturing Technology Institute Limited (AMTIL), with seed funding from the Victorian Government. These organisations collectively represent thousands of Australian medical technology manufacturers.

Nick Foa, CEO ICN Victoria commented, “As a supporter of local industry for 40 years, ICN Victoria is proud to participate in this new Alliance which will raise awareness of local medical manufacturing capability and drive greater engagement between local manufacturers and health buyers.”

“The Alliance’s activity will complement existing industry initiatives such as our medtech manufacturing directory, and will be key to helping local win, creating local jobs and building a stronger domestic medtech supply chain,” said Mr Foa.

What is Alliance’s objective?

Unlike other sectors, no pathway currently exists to help local medtech manufacturers sell into Australia’s private or public healthcare system.

The Alliance seeks to create more opportunities for local manufacturers to engage with public and private health buyers, delivering more contracts, more jobs, greater sovereign manufacturing capability and a stronger economy.

The Alliance will also be a unified industry voice that will advocate on behalf of Victorian SME medtech manufacturers across the key issues impacting the sector.

Karen Parr, CEO, BioMelbourne Network and Alliance lead said, “Australia is home to world-class medtech innovators and manufacturers. Increasing awareness of these companies and growing local content in health, will support Australian health services to continue to deliver world-leading care and strengthen our country’s sovereign capabilities.

ICN Victoria has an important role in the Alliance

As a supporter of local industry and organisation responsible for delivering the Local Jobs First policy, ICN Victoria will play a key role in creating opportunities for engagement between Victorian medtech manufacturers and healthcare procurement functions as part of the Alliance. Other opportunities ICN Victoria will provide including listing local manufacturers in its Victorian Medtech Manufacturing Capability Directory and promoting the directory to health buyers.

ICN Victoria invites established Victorian medtech companies currently manufacturing medtech products to contact us to discuss how the Alliance can support you.
