The global transition away from fossil fuels needs a mix of renewable, flexible, storable and safe fuels. Hydrogen has all of these characteristics.
Clean hydrogen, produced using low or zero emission sources, allows for deep decarbonisation across the energy and industrial sectors.
South Australia is primed to become a world-class, low-cost green hydrogen supplier. The state’s abundant renewable energy resources and proximity to key export markets gives a competitive edge in the race to supply clean, green renewable hydrogen to the world.
Hydrogen production will create new opportunities for the heavy industry sector to use the hydrogen to decarbonise its processes and be more competitive against imports.
The significant existing industrial capability and capacity that supports the state’s resources and energy sectors will play a critical role in growing capacity to produce, store, transport and export hydrogen.
There are a range of new hydrogen projects being delivered in South Australia. These provide broad ranging opportunities for varying industry sectors, including civil construction, general site works, manufacturing and production, as well as professional services such as:
- feasibility studies
- cultural awareness training
- public awareness
- stakeholder and marketing support.
ICN SA is currently undertaking a Hydrogen Supply Chain Mapping and Gap Analysis study. This analysis will:
- outline the existing industry capability to support the development of a green hydrogen industry
- identify supply chain gaps
- inform potential government interventions to support hydrogen industry development.
Businesses interested in taking part in hydrogen supply chains are invited to contact ICN SA via info@icnsa.org.au to ensure visibility in future supply chain mapping activities and to major project proponents.
