Energy efficiency takes centre stage

The second Energy Efficiency Expo and Seminar was again hosted by ICN SA and the Department for Industry and Skills in Adelaide.

Member for Newland, Dr Richard Harvey opened the event, which attracted around 350 delegates and 33 exhibitors.

ICN SA’s Bettina Venner, told delegates that the expo was about connecting people with the exhibiting businesses that can help improve energy efficiency and reduce energy bills.

“Our lifestyle today is made possible by how we have been able to harness energy, particularly since the Industrial Revolution,” Bettina said.

“Yet this has not come without its challenges, including climate change and the need to change our energy mix.

“By improving our energy efficiency, we will gain other benefits as well – reduced costs and reduced pollution overall, because it’s not just carbon dioxide that’s emitted from burning fossil fuels to generate energy.”

A highlight of this year’s event was a panel session focused on case studies by local businesses that have managed to cut their energy bills, facilitated by Rob Murray Leach from the Energy Efficiency Council. For example, lifting and rigging specialists, Nobles made significant savings just from changing their lighting.

Attendees also enjoyed a wide range of discussions and presentations including:

  • A seminar session about the WWF Energy Buyers Forum highlighting the business case and the options for corporate power purchase agreements.
  • A presentation from the Australian Energy Market Operator on energy storage and demand response.
  • Michael Williams, author of Power Profits, with his nine-step process for reducing electricity costs and boosting profits.
  • Information about how to access Building Upgrade finance for capital improvements that result in a reduction in energy, water and waste usage, from both AXA Investment Managers and the Adelaide City Council.
  • A presentation on future energy trends and market projections, and an overview of the National Energy Market and Energy Policy.
