The Department of Defence is redeveloping the Airforce’s Woomera Range Complex (WRC), 445 kilometres north-west of Adelaide, with the Woomera Redevelopment Joint Venture appointed as managing contractor.
The primary objective of the project is to substantial upgrade or replacement existing infrastructure and facilities within the WRC with the aim of enhancing Defence capability for the next 25 years.
The joint venture, a collaboration between Downer and CPB Contractors, is in the planning stage and working with ICN SA to sound out the market.
Under the contract, the joint venture partners will start design development activities for the estimated $500 to $700 million project. This will then form the basis of Defence’s submission for government approval.
The scope of work covers a range of services, including remedial works and upgrades to infrastructure such as:
- electrical
- sewer
- stormwater
- hydraulic
- communications.
It will also involve the construction of living accommodation, airfield pavements, and the demolition of various facilities.
“The Woomera Redevelopment Joint Venture is actively seeking registrations from interested suppliers and contractors with capacity and capability to participate in this program of works,” David Royle, Supply Chain Manager ICN SA, said.
“It’s important to note that this market sounding process is not the first stage of a multi-stage procurement. If you choose not to take part in this process, you won’t face any restrictions or disadvantages if any potential future request for tender (RFT) process.”
“This process also doesn’t imply any contractual obligation. Participants should not interpret this market sounding process as indicative of the final development and delivery strategy for the program.”
