Project Marinus was established by TasNetworks and is being progressed with financial support from the Australian and Tasmanian Governments. Project Marinus is comprised of several related standalone projects:

  • Marinus Link – a proposed 1500 megawatt HVDC underground and subsea electricity interconnector between Tasmania and Victoria
  • Supporting transmission developments in Tasmania.

The proposed construction of Marinus Link has been formally recognised as a key component of Australia’s fast-evolving National Energy Market.

TasNetworks is owned by the State of Tasmania, and is operated as a commercial business with assets of $3.5 billion. TasNetworks is also the jurisdictional planner in the National Energy Market for Tasmania.
