Northern Territory company Sitzler has been awarded an early involvement contractor worth $88 million to build Darwin’s Northern Territory Art Gallery and redevelop the Civic and State Square precinct redevelopment.
Sitzler is working with the ICN NT to identify local suppliers with capacity and capability to be involved in this major project.
As part of the procurement process, Sitzler is committed to identifying successful subcontractors throughout the project to maximise downstream opportunities for local and Aboriginal businesses.
The NT Art Gallery is a 3-storey gallery, designed by local architects Ashford Architects with Clare Design and Hully Liveris, as part of the Darwin City Deal – a joint initiative between the Australian and Northern Territory governments and City of Darwin.
The Civic and State Square precinct will include:
- a shaded, flexible and active centrally located space for special community events and everyday use
- a tropical tree lined walk, with tall shelters for year-round protection from the tropical sun and rain
- event lawns fully serviced for local festivals and events
- pedestrianised forecourts to Parliament House and Supreme Court with welcoming and cooling water and garden features.
The project will link the Darwin CBD and Darwin Waterfront to attract locals, visitors, artists and businesses.
The economic benefits include an estimated 322 jobs in the construction phase.
