ICN has wanted to establish a presence in Katherine for some time and a joint venture with the Chamber of Commerce NT has enabled us to do so.
The Katherine region has a growing national focus for a number of sectors but particularly Defence at Tindal Airforce Base and the establishment of a highly prospective onshore oil & gas industry.
ICN and the Chamber of Commerce Northern Territory are pleased to announce the appointment of Colin Abbott as Regional Manager/Industry Advisor. Colin has a wealth of experience across the local government, vocational education and telecommunications sectors, and has most recently held roles with the Victoria Daly Regional Council in Katherine.
The Lendlease Tindal project will have a significant economic impact over the next seven years so to have an ICN representative on the ground will be greatly beneficial. The onshore oil & gas industry is still in its infancy but the ability to promote local capability to opportunities as they emerge will be enhanced.
The announcements emanating from Government about growing the NT economy through a broadened industry base are promising, and ICN needs to be pro-active in ensuring our businesses receive “full, fair and reasonable” access to opportunities in our backyard.
