Resources company, Tivan is working with ICN to identify local suppliers for the Mount Peake and Speewah projects in northern Australia.
Speewah, located south-west of Kununurra in Western Australia’s Kimberley region, is the largest, highest grade vanadium in titanomagnetite resource in the world; while Mount Peake, north of Alice Springs in the North Territory, is one of Australia’s largest flat-lying, shallow vanadium-titanium deposits.
Tivan’s core mission is to develop the Speewah project, Mount Peake as a key strategic asset for the company.
In an ASX update, Tivan said Mount Peake was expected to play a refocused facilitation role in the commercialisation of Speewah and the company’s proprietary mineral processing technology.
At Speewah, Tivan intends to conduct mining and initial beneficiation processing of vanadiferous titanomagnetite ore, before transporting it to its processing facility at Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct, in Darwin.
Using a combination of pyrometallurgical and novel hydrometallurgical processes, the processing facility will selectively extract and refine the beneficiated vanadiferous titanomagnetite feedstock to produce vanadium pentoxide flake, a titanium sulphate pigment plant feedstock and a high purity iron oxide product.
The projects are currently in the Initial scoping study phase, with prefeasibility planned for 2024, feasibility in 2025 and front-end engineering design to support final investment decision in 2026.
To support the delivery of key engineering phases, Tivan Limited also plans to build and operate a pilot plant facility at East Arm, Darwin.
Over the course of the project, there will be a number of associated work packages available for:
- ore extraction
- civil works
- process and non-process infrastructure
- general services, such as labour hire, medical, triage and emergency services, transport, waste collection and security.
