ICN Qld has released the Tier Barometer Tool (TBT), an online local industry development tool supported by the Queensland Government.
The tool is designed to help local industry suppliers understand their tier level of supply in major project supply chains. This, in turns, allows them to better position themselves for opportunities.
ICN Qld Executive Director, Abhiney Arora, said the need for the TBT was initially identified in a report that found Queensland businesses struggled to understand where they fit in the supply chain.
“Suppliers can use the tool to make an informed decision to improve their capabilities to participate at that tier level of supply, remain at that tier level of supply or potentially move up the tier level of supply through a number of options,” he said.
“The TBT also identifies a road map of additional skills and training needed for suppliers to increase their chances of winning tenders.”
It is designed to be used for a specific major project and it also help a project proponent better understand the local supply chain base and how they might best support this base to maximise local participation for their project. It can also help identify industry-wide capability gaps and weaknesses in financial, safety, environmental, risk, and quality management.
There are four variances to the Tier Barometer allowing you to assess your company for supply to very small, small, medium or large projects.
“Once you select a variance, you answer a series of basic questions, and the tool automatically generates a two-page report. This report includes a series of “signposts” to give you clarity on where your business sits as a potential supplier to a major project, and provides some options on how to improve,” Abhiney said.
“The report includes a detailed description of ideal key attributes for each tier level of supply to help you understand what an ideal supplier might look like for each tier level of supply.”
The questions and report are based on research and responses to a survey from more than 100 organisations covering a mix of major project proponents, Tier 1 contractors and key subcontractors.
