Main works construction is underway on the new Powerhouse Parramatta, with Lendlease responsible for the museum’s detailed design and construction.

Powerhouse Parramatta is one of the largest structural engineering and architecturally complex projects underway in Australia. The 6-Star Green Star rated building will have more than 18,000 square metres of museum exhibition and public spaces across seven exhibition spaces enabling a constantly changing program and providing new levels of access to the Powerhouse Collection.

This project will be transformational for Western Sydney and will deliver economic, social and cultural benefits.

ICN NSW is working with Lendlease to identify local capability for the project, with a forecast completion in late 2024.

More than 4,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created across the project lifespan with a focus on local employment, Apprentices and Trainees and First Nations participation.

The project will inject hundreds of millions into the economy through the procurement of labour and construction materials, and once complete, will attract two million visitors annually.

Early works on the project have been completed and Senior ICN consultant Thuy Ho said Lendlease will progressively release work packages according to the project schedule.

Over the next 6 months, works will focus on:

  • establishing the site and setting up the compound
  • excavation and earthworks

Further building works will include construction of spaces for:

  • public presentation
  • front and back-of-house
  • education and community
  • co-working and staff office
  • residences and retail spaces.

There will also be work packages released for associated infrastructure and landscaping.

Thuy encourages Western Sydney suppliers with capability to submit expressions of interest in the project via its Gateway page.

“ICN and Lendlease will use your company summary and description to assess your capability, so make sure you invest the time and energy needed to put your company’s best foot forward,” she said.

Powerhouse Parramatta is the largest investment in cultural infrastructure since the Sydney Opera House, and the first major NSW cultural institution to be established in Western Sydney.

Become a part of delivering this iconic project.
