A new copper mine in north-west Queensland is expected to produce 45 million kg of copper and 397 kg of gold each year.

The Eva Copper Project, 95 km north-east of Mt Isa and 75 km north of Cloncurry is expected to operate as a conventional open pit with a conventional crush, grind, flotation circuit.

In December 2021, owners, Copper Mountain Mining Corporation, a TSX/ASX listed copper producer, developer and explorer, approved the construction plan. The final investment decision (FID) is subject to 80% completion of detailed engineering and project financing.

Eva Copper Mine Pty Ltd is working with ICN Queensland to identify local suppliers for the project, which could be worth up to $1 billion in work packages.

“Eva Copper will deliver diverse and complex engineering and construction work packages,” ICN QLD Procurement Engineering Specialist Nimmi Pushparajan said.

Copper Mountain Mining has identified several initial early procurement packages for long-lead equipment items, project management support services and early work scope that can go to tender during the pre-FID and detailed engineering review period.

Once FID is made, construction of the mine and processing facility is expected to take about 2 years.  There will also be packages in relation to a 300-person accommodation village on site, as well as administration buildings, maintenance, training and first-aid facilities.

“Information on specific supply opportunities will be communicated on the ICN Gateway project page as it becomes available, with local industry able to register its interest against them. Please note that submitting an EOI does not guarantee you will progress further in the procurement process,” Nimmi said.

The project includes the development of five deposits –  Little Eva, Turkey Creek, Bedford, Lady Clayre, and Ivy Ann. Little Eva and Turkey Creek will account for more than 90% of the mineral reserves at the project.

Eva is expected to be commissioned in late 2024.

For more information, or to register an expression of interest, go to the Eva Copper Project Gateway Page.
